Rheumatology is a branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats diseases affecting the joints, muscles, bones, and connective tissues. These diagnoses are often caused by issues within the immune system, such as inflammation, infections, or the gradual deterioration of connective tissues.

Rheumatology covers many conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout, osteoporosis, and psoriatic arthritis, and is treated in many ways: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologics, physical therapy, and surgery.
